Wondering what pieces you need to give your style an update, well read on as you will be pleased to know updating your look this season is pretty easy (quite a lot of trends have continued) and you can find inspiration from rummaging through your old collection of photos, as the #Y2K trend is not going anywhere!
1: Basics; Tank Tops & Breton Stripes
The most basic of items which anyone can style!! Fresh and bright a simple white tank will elevate wide leg pants, jeans, skirts and more. All body shapes can wear this and if you're feeling a little exposed just layer over an oversized shirt or grandad cardigan! We are also happy to see lots of Breton stripes in the shops which never get tired, Just edge it up with updated jeans or trousers (see below.)
2: Oversize Suiting
We are not talking just oversized blazers anymore, take that trend one step further with oversize trousers to complete the look. Wide and voluminous, masculine and edgy, this is a trend which screams cool girl. We love this look and especially paired with a white tank top as above, some fierce shades, statement bag and sneakers.
3. Biker Boots
Chunky boots were huge in 2021 and will continue this year, so if you haven't invested then go for it. We believe this trend will continue for many years to come. It's amazing how many of our shopping clients we have introduced to the chunky boot and how they love it! Cream or black will both work hard in your wardrobe. If you want to elevate the trend further then go for a more biker style with hard-wear which we will see more of coming through in store.
This trend took off throughout the summer and was easy to wear on holiday. For winter opt for satin fabrics, lace and more romantic detail, pair with anything from jeans to a maxi tube skirt. Wear day to night, you can even contrast the texture with a cosy cardigan.
5. Bright Colour
We love this trend and the joy it brings to so many of our clients! Saturated intense
colour is a trend which is here to stay. Hot pink is still hot and we are seeing some fabulous suiting coming through in this colour already. So if you bought into this trend over the past year, don't pass your pieces on just yet, get them ready for some Autumn styling!
6. Suiting all day and night!
Yep, you don't have to have an office job to wear a beautiful tailored suit. In fact we think its funny how the trend to wear a suit not just for work is in contrast to the past couple of years work at home, casual attire. It is like a slap in the face to loungewear! We are excited to not need an excuse to look more formal and put together and hope others embrace this too!
7. Bomber jackets
This cute piece is always popping in and out of fashion trends and we never let our clients throw out a decent bomber. They are useful and easy to throw on and really step up an outfit making it look more modern and cool. Leather bombers are particularly on trend this season which we love too (try preloved vintage before buying new).
8. Maxi or Micro?
Long and straight, tube or belt like? Skirts and dresses need to be full length or disappearing and with a preppy style you are ticking all the boxes!
The micro skirt is hanging on due to the #Y2k trend (think Christina Aguilera and Brittney Spears back in the day). So far in Amsterdam we haven't seen the micro skirt get going at all but we are excited for the maxi length to return, it's a shape which is easy to style and flattering for most.
We are always asked what the latest denim trend is and this Autumn it ranges from high waisted baggy jeans to low slung 90's style. Are skinnies in? Well, we always think this shape is flattering and has never gone out of style in our opinion. The trend for high-waist is great news as it suits and flatters most women but if you are thinking flowy and baggy jeans will drown you, well think again. Getting them altered to hit your feet at the right length and balancing with the right footwear and top, this trend is for anyone. We have proof after recently styling a very petite client of ours in high waist loose jeans and she looked amazing!
10. Black is back!
Great news for the gazillion of women who love to wear black, you can now do so with a stride in your step as head to toe black, even goth like is going to be a big Autumn trend in 2022. As colour consultants we are endlessly trying to get our clients to wear other colours, but we do agree, sometimes black looks so chic and cool, it will always have a place in our hearts.
